Kent is a great county, which we're pleased to call home. We were both born, raised, lived our lives, and are now retired in, the Ancient Kingdom of Kent (which means Kent as it was before London stole bits of it).
This all started with a search for a recipe for Gypsy Tart. To all Kent children it's a school dinners staple; but one which most non-Kentish people have never heard of. While looking we found a wide range of Kent recipes so here they are in one place.
It's hardly surprising that the Garden of England, with such a diverse array of local products together with some fairly localised ones, like hops, oysters and cobnuts, has spawned well over forty local recipes. Some have spread across England, some remain local, and some have died out. We've yet to find Flead in Tesco, but we live in hope.
Health Warning: We haven't actually cooked anything yet, apart from Gypsy Tart, so we offer no guarantee of success.
We're going to carry on looking for more additions. And if you have a Kent recipe please send it to us.
David & Sue
